Hello Taylorsville! My name is Lisa Gehrke and I am running for Taylorsville city council in district one. I have been proud to call Taylorsville my home for over ten years. My son grew up here, attended our public schools, and graduated from Taylorsville High in 2016. I grew up in South Salt Lake, attended Granite High School and graduated from Westminster college with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. I am a nurse at Huntsman Cancer Hospital and served as the chair of our hematology unit’s clinical practice council for the last two years. I am in this race because Taylorsville is experiencing economic and residential growth. With that growth I see the need and opportunity for community stewardship and environmental leadership. When we think of making change and promoting sustainability many of us think of far reaching national and international policies. But promoting change and sustainability starts at home, in our cities and neighborhoods. It starts when we stop giving tax breaks to corporations and real estate developers who do business in our communities, when we start to insist that those who profit from our infrastructure and our workforce put some skin in the game. It starts when we insist on a transportation system built around people and not parking lots; when we build reliable public transit. It starts when we show that we value public education by investing in after school programs. It begins when community leaders, residents, and city government works together to solve our housing crises. When we require developers to provide low income options in all new housing projects and maintain long term affordability. Change starts when our local representatives communicate with residents who stand to feel the effects of growth and development the most. I want to hear from you. I want to promote a city where real people have a real voice. Change starts in our own backyards, and friends, it’s time for a change. Help me bring a new voice to our city council and Vote Gehrke!
